Information to Change the World

Adult Book Discussion

Jim Beckett was everything she’d ever dreamed of…But two years
after Tess married the decorated cop, she helped put him
behind bars for savagely murdering ten women. Even locked up in a maximum
security prison, he vowed he would come after her and make her pay. Now the
cunning killer has escaped—and the most dangerous game of all begins….

The Perfect Husband by Lisa Gardner is the winner of the 1998 Reviewer’s Choice Award and is the subject of the next book discussion on May 17th.  Please call or stop by the library for further information.

From the Director’s Corner

While going through my email this morning I was directed to a website I’d never seen before.  The Library History Buff is right up my alley! I love history and libraries (of course) so this site quickly caught my attention.

The site is located at www.libraryhistorybuff.org and has many interesting displays.  One contained postcards that were sent to library users to let them know of overdue library books.  The earliest card on this site is from the 1800′s and they continue up through the 1950′s.

One postcard in particular, dated August 25, 1884, stated that fines would accumulate at the rate of ten cents per day.   This struck me as interesting since our fines are still ten cents per day.  After 128 years, library fines have not risen.  Libraries truly are a bargain!
